Our Reading Offer

Reading is a big part of everyday learning for all our pupils. We make sure that every child has regular opportunities to enjoy stories, explore books and develop their reading skills in ways that suit their needs.

Each pathway uses different activities and resources to support reading skills, so that every child can take part and make progress.

We have Reading Champions across school. They help support reading in school and support parents with fun activities to complete at home.

Reading at Home

We love working together with families to support reading at home. Each pathway has slightly different resources to match how pupils learn best.

To Be Pathway

Children bring home sensory story bags. These include objects and materials linked to a story, so your child can explore it using all their senses.

The same story is kept for a half term so your child has time to become familiar with it, join in, and begin to anticipate what happens next.

To Do Pathway

Children take home interactive books and symbol packs. These books might include sounds or textures so you can enjoy them together in a hands-on way.

Symbol packs are included to help your child understand the story and communicate about it.
These are usually changed every other week.

To Know Pathway

Children have individual reading books matched to their phonics level. Books are changed as needed to make sure your child is both supported and challenged as they progress

We also regularly send home a range of fun reading activities to support your child’s skills. These might include games, matching activities, or ideas to enjoy stories together. Here are some examples:
