Our Core Aims and Values:

  • We place students at the heart of everything we do.
  • We prioritise inquiry and reflection as essential aspects of our practice.
  • We provide a curriculum designed to prepare our pupils for adulthood.
  • We offer person-centred learning tailored to each pupil’s individual needs.
  • We equip learners with the skills needed to maximize their full potential, both now and in the future.

All learners at Bleasdale School have access to a career’s programme through our Citizenship and Employment curriculum (this can be found below):

This is underpinned by the Preparing for Adulthood Framework. We work on independence skills supporting our learners to be fully equipped for life after Bleasdale School. The sessions and experiences are individualised and linked to the Curriculum Pathway learners are on.

Careers education is documented on the Evidence for Learning App. The Gatsby benchmarks are used as an evaluation tool to monitor and develop Careers education against national standards.

We discuss each pupil’s pathway at their annual review and where appropriate discuss their transition plans, working with multiple agencies to complete a personalised pathway plan.

Work Experience

Work experience is individualised and again is linked to our learners pathway. Learners can get involved for example, in the role of the Site Supervisor and the Gardener. We also have 3 employment rooms where learners can immerse themselves in a functional environment practicing the key skills needed to equip them to be able to work within the community. Our employment rooms include a shop, hairdressing salon and a hospital room. We also have Bleasdale Brews ‘pop-up’ café, which takes place every Wednesday morning.

Bleasdale Brews

Bleasdale Brews Is our pop-up café which is run by Falcons class and is open to members of the public once a week on a Wednesday 10.15 – 11.15. Learners take turns to explore different job roles within the café and look forward to serving teacakes and drinks for just £1.00.

Employment Rooms

We have a big focus on Preparing for Adulthood, i.e. life after Bleasdale. Our curriculum reflects this and ensures all learners have access to these rooms once per week.

Bleasdale ‘Pop-Up’ Shop

Our Bleasdale ‘Pop-Up’ Shop was opened on 6th December 2024 and is in partnership with Booths supermarket. Together we have created a fantastic shop environment which is open every day between 10.00-11.00 & 1.30 – 2.30pm selling products created by our learners during their Enterprise lessons and second hand items including books, toys, Bric a Brac, clothes and much more.

Bleasdale Hair Salon

Learners enjoy accessing our hairdressers where they can take part in sensory role play and employment sessions exploring the different elements associated with a hairdressing salon.

Learners have opportunities to take part in sensory role play and employment sessions in our hospital room.

Bleasdale Hospital Room

Learners have opportunities to take part in sensory role play and employment sessions in our hospital room. Both the above employment rooms are currently in the early stages of development. Watch out for updates coming soon.

Workplace Encounters

Learners also have meaningful work place encounters with a range of different employers and employees, for example, Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service, the Police, Cumbria Cricket Ltd and the Lancashire Music Service.

Lower school have been exploring People who are Important to Us within our local community as part of Our World Curriculum. This promotes role play and contributes towards Preparing for Adulthood.
