Further Information

What is the LPPA?

The Leading Parent Partnership Award (LPPA) is a nationally recognised accreditation for schools that demonstrates they work effectively with parents and carers to support children’s education and wellbeing. Schools are assessed against a set of evidence-based standards and must show they have strong, meaningful partnerships with families.

What is the purpose of LPPA?

The award helps schools:

  • Improve communication between home and school.
  • Encourage greater parental involvement in children’s learning.
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for families.
  • Support parents during key transition periods (such as starting school or moving to secondary school).
  • Improve outcomes such as attendance, punctuality, behaviour, and academic progress.

What does a school have to do to achieve it?

Schools must provide evidence that they meet a series of objectives, including:

  1. Committing to parental engagement.
  2. Developing and implementing plans to maintain that engagement.
  3. Being welcoming and communicative.
  4. Encouraging participation from all groups of parents.
  5. Providing effective induction for new families.
  6. Giving parents clear guidance to support learning at home.
  7. Developing parent-friendly policies and strong home-school links.
  8. Supporting families through transitions.
  9. Reviewing achievements and planning future improvements.

Why is it valued?

Schools that achieve LPPA often report:

  • Better relationships with families.
  • Increased parent participation in school activities.
  • Improved support for pupils’ learning at home.
  • Stronger attendance and behaviour outcomes.
  • Evidence of good parental engagement for school inspections and quality assurance.
