Playground Developments
Last week, construction began on the fifth phase of our playground development, marking another exciting step forward in enhancing our outdoor learning and play environments. This latest addition is designed to provide inclusive, stimulating spaces that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our students. The new playground will feature sensory-friendly zones, accessible equipment, and areas that encourage imaginative play, physical activity, and social interaction. We are thrilled to see this vision taking shape and look forward to the positive impact it will have on the wellbeing and development of our learners.
New Student Transitions
Last week at Bleasdale School, we warmly welcomed new students as part of their transition into our school community, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in their educational journey. These transition sessions provide opportunities for students to explore their new environment, meet their peers and staff and begin to build the confidence and connections that will support them throughout their time at Bleasdale. Our team worked closely with families and carers to ensure each student felt safe, supported, and valued from the very start. It has been a joy to see their enthusiasm, curiosity and growing sense of belonging already beginning to shine through.
Student Placement
Last week, we were delighted to welcome another university student who joined us at Bleasdale for their placement. This marks another valuable opportunity to share our practice, support professional development and strengthen partnerships with higher education institutions. The placement student has already begun engaging with our staff and learners, bringing fresh enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. We look forward to supporting their journey, offering meaningful hands-on experience, and benefiting from their unique perspective as they contribute to the life of the school during their time with us.
PRICE Training
Last week, several members of our dedicated staff — Arlene (HLTA), Kim (LLP), Sefton (Headteacher), and Jade (TA3) — successfully undertook PRICE training, further strengthening our commitment to providing safe, supportive, and therapeutic approaches within our school. This specialised training equips staff with the skills and knowledge needed to proactively manage risk and behaviour with care, dignity, and respect at the forefront. Their participation reflects our ongoing focus on professional development and creating a nurturing environment where every student can thrive.
PRICE Training places strong emphasis on the use of primary, secondary, and non-restrictive tertiary strategies. Grounded in a person-centred approach, it focuses on understanding and meeting individuals’ needs proactively—well before challenges arise. The training equips participants to identify early behavioural indicators, whether physical, emotional, or communicative, and respond with creative, experience-based techniques designed to prevent escalation. A core component of the programme is the application of non-restrictive tertiary strategies, including de-escalation, diversion, distraction, and strategic capitulation. Additionally, it provides instruction in breakaway techniques to safely and respectfully manage instances of unwanted physical contact
This training empowers these staff members with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to effectively cascade their learning, enabling them to train and support the wider staff team in adopting the same approaches.
