World Book Day! – 09/03/2026

World Book Day

Last week, It was fantastic to see such a wide range of creative costumes for World Book Day this year. Even more impressive was the enthusiasm pupils showed for books and reading activities throughout the day. From classroom storytelling to reading outdoors, pupils had many opportunities to explore and enjoy literature in different ways. The event was a wonderful celebration of reading and the joy that books can bring.

Outdoor Play

Last week, it has been amazing to see pupils making the most of outdoor play opportunities. Everyone has been interacting, exploring different resources, and engaging with one another to develop play skills and social interaction. Outdoor play is an important part of learning and wellbeing, and it’s great to see it being used so positively. A gentle reminder to everyone to help support this by tidying up resources after use.

Careers Week

A huge thank you to Karen for organising such a fantastic Careers Week last week, and to everyone who helped make it possible. We are also very grateful to those who gave up their time and helped connect our pupils with a range of workplaces and employers.

Special thanks to Paul, Jayne, Martin the farmer, Wilson Construction, Emily and the students from Kendal College, the clients at the hairdressers and beauty salon, and the firefighter who all helped provide real-life workplace experiences. Pupils had some amazing opportunities to learn about different careers and the world of work.

Twilight Staff Training

Thank you to all staff who contributed to last week’s Twilight session last week. Staff worked hard on First Aid training, helping ensure we continue to keep everyone safe.

There were also thoughtful discussions about our “WHY” – our North Star and purpose – and how this connects to what we do in the classroom. Staff explored how this links to our classroom practice, our “windows into learning,” and the tasks we carry out every day.

Business Support Officer Interviews

Last week we held interviews for the Business Support Officer role and were delighted to meet four incredibly strong candidates. In fact, the panel felt that any of them could have been successful.

One thing that stood out was that all candidates were attracted to the school because of the positive work they saw showcased on our website, reflecting the dedication and quality of work from staff across the school. Congratulations to Eleanor, who was successful in securing the role.

Evidence for Learning (EfL)

With both Careers Week and World Book Day, it has been a busy and exciting time in school last week. This was reflected in an impressive 411 Evidence for Learning entries this week.

This week’s focus will be on physical development, including aquatic learning and rebound therapy.

Attendance Update

Last week’s whole-school attendance was 90.2%, which is 2% higher than at the same point last year—a fantastic improvement.

Please keep up the excellent work with celebrating attendance! Every day in school makes a difference!

Sign of the week: World About Me

Coming next week:

Next week will be a busy and exciting one in school, with several activities and events taking place across the week.

Pupils will be taking part in World Around Me (Science) Week, where they will explore and learn more about the world through a range of engaging science-based activities and lessons.

Our Mother’s Day stall will also be open throughout the week, giving pupils the opportunity to purchase small gifts for the special people in their lives.

In addition, Year 8 and Year 9 students will be receiving their scheduled vaccinations and we will be holding a staff wellbeing run to promote health and wellbeing among our team.
