World Music Day

We had a vibrant celebration of World Music Day last week, immersing ourselves in a diverse array of musical styles. The pupils expressed their responses through dynamic dance, expressive facial reactions, and engaging interactions with the staff. The afternoon featured an exhilarating stomp workshop in the hall, where students enthusiastically participated in creating rhythmic patterns and beats. This interactive session was not only entertaining but also a fantastic way to explore the creative potential of music and movement.

Changing Lives Learning Trust (CLLT) Update

Last week, our senior leadership team had the distinct pleasure of hosting a visit from Judith Schafer, the newly appointed CEO of CLLT, along with the head of the trust board. During their visit, they expressed their admiration for our school, remarking that they had never encountered such a remarkable institution that offers a unique and enriching learning experience for all who enter. We took this opportunity to engage in a meaningful dialogue, sharing our vision and insights on the future direction of Bleasdale School.

LASSHTA

Last Friday, Bleasdale had the honour of hosting the final LASSHTA meeting of the year, bringing together all the special head teachers from across Lancashire, one of the largest counties in the UK. This meticulously planned event featured an enlightening session with Aby Hardy, Head of Education Improvement and SEND Inclusion, who shared an array of visionary plans designed to propel our efforts forward. Our discussions also delved into the pressing issue of relationships and behaviour within our schools, underscoring our sector’s relentless commitment to pioneering advancements in this critical area. Let’s continue to lead the way, special heads!

Governor Meeting Update

Our dedicated Governors worked hard this week reviewing both the staffing needs of our expanding school and an impressive array of curriculum matters. Highlights included the development of comprehensive curriculum maps for Autumn, Spring, and Summer 2024-2025, robust Continuous Professional Development and Learning (CPDL) initiatives for all staff, and the launch of our new website. Additionally, we celebrated our feature in the SEN magazine and introduced our new Teaching and Learning feedback form. These accomplishments, alongside numerous other achievements, reflect the hard work and commitment of our brilliant staff team. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved.

Predictability

Last week, Seedlings class has dedicated considerable effort to enhancing predictability and alleviating anxiety within the classroom environment. We have developed a portable “Now and Next” folder, designed to accommodate all essential symbols. This folder, equipped with Velcro on the back, provides convenient and accessible storage for frequently used symbols. Additionally, we have two “Now and Next” folders readily available for immediate use within the classroom, offering flexibility for staff to support all pupils effectively.

We have also assembled an outings bag that includes sand timers, motivating items, ear defenders, picture cue cards, and an additional “Now and Next” folder. These resources have proven invaluable this week, leading to remarkable “WOW” moments, significantly reduced challenging behaviours, and noticeably diminished anxieties among our pupils.

What’s been going on around School?

In other news from last week, Falcons class has achieved significant success with their Now, Next & Then boards, while Acorns class has effectively implemented task scheduling during structured morning groups; these strategies have been well-received by learners, enabling them to better anticipate upcoming activities.
